A successful meeting yesterday!

Hello everyone! Thanks so much to those of you who attended our first in-person meeting yesterday! We had a fabulout turnout. It was great to meet everyone, and we are looking forward to our next meeting (time and date TBD).

Two things we agreed we would like all like to focus on most were:

SEO (Search Engine Optimization)/Online Promoting, and
PHOTOS!

Here is the link to Etsy's pdf of their official SEO guide: http://www.etsy.com/storque/media/bunker/2009/09/Etsy_Sellers_Guide_to_SEO_Version_1.0_.pdf
There are great tips in here. I have not read it yet but am reading it now, and if you haven't, you should! Let's all check it out and see what we can do to make sure our shops and items are as visible as possible to the search engines. We will continue to look for information and provide tips and tricks on this topic, as it is an ongoing challenge.

Regarding photos, Malea has a friend who is a photographer. She is going to ask her friend if she would be willing to do a consultation/training session with us so that we can all learn how to take better photos. Great photos are one of the golden keys to Etsy success, so we're looking forward to this.

If you couldn't attend, don't worry. We'll plan another meeting soon. And if you still want to sign up for a booth for the Dec. 5th craft faire at Regency Park Elementary School, please email me: marianne.bland@gmail.com so we can arrange a way for you to get your $25 to the coordinator at the school. Thanks!

Marianne

Great meeting! I checked the www.spyfu.com, and changed some of my keywords. I also noticed that many of the top ranking sites on Google have their product in their "Title". I read somewhere once that that helps the bots find you. Thanks for posting the SEO's, will read that tonight.

Heike, I just started reading it and the information they put together is AMAZING. Now I understand why my traffic seems to be low. The way my site and descriptions are written is too vague to show up high. I cannot wait to try all of these amazing suggestions! Also, I emailed that chick at the school and am waiting for her reply. Thanks!

I haven't yet gone to spyfu and have only scanned the Etsy SEO guide but plan to really sit down and do the nitty gritty stuff on Monday.

I had another thought about possible speakers or presentations for a future gathering. There is a local company called Trumpette that is based in Sacramento and started out with an idea that a single dad had after adopting his son. I don't know if we could get him or one of his business partners to come and talk to us...? They now have a shop in the Pavillions, a shop-within-a-shop at FAO Schwartz in NY and a deal with Disney! It all started with a onesie he designed for his little boy...

Trumpette's site: www.trumpette.com

And, the story of how they started out: www.trumpette.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=page.display&page_id=14

Rad, Malea, I will check that out. I would imagine dude charges money for motivational speaking, but we'll see what we can do! ;)

I read Etsy SEO guide. It has a lot of good information. I ended up tweaking a few things in my shop and adding in a lot more key words. I guess we will see if it helps traffic any.. :)

In case everyone hasn't listed a new item recently, they added this nifty "preview what your listing will look like in google" thing that saves you the time of doing 'word count' in an editing software. Yay!
